HIV's gut hideout: study probes why virus lingers despite meds
NCT ID NCT01038401
First seen May 03, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study examined 30 HIV-positive adults who had been on effective antiretroviral therapy for at least a year and had undetectable virus levels in their blood. Researchers took gut tissue samples to look for hidden HIV and understand why the virus persists in the body. The goal was to learn more about HIV reservoirs, not to test a new treatment.
