Higher labor drug dose tested to cut risky C-Sections for obese moms
NCT ID NCT04760496
Summary
This study tested whether giving higher doses of oxytocin (a standard labor medication) during childbirth could safely reduce the need for cesarean sections in obese women having their first baby. Researchers compared standard oxytocin doses to double doses in 443 first-time mothers with obesity who were in spontaneous or induced labor. The goal was to see if stronger contractions from higher oxytocin could help more women deliver vaginally without increasing risks to mother or newborn.
