Can vitamin c save lives in sepsis? new trial tests Mega-Doses

NCT ID NCT05194189

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving very high doses of vitamin C to people with sepsis (a severe infection that can cause organ failure) could lower the chance of dying within 28 days. Over 200 adults in intensive care were randomly given either vitamin C or a placebo for up to 4 days. The main goal was to see if vitamin C reduced deaths, but it is not a cure—sepsis requires ongoing medical care.
