New study: can a simple surgery stop reflux?

NCT ID NCT06280664

First seen Dec 30, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether closing a small opening in the diaphragm (hiatal closure) can control early GERD. Researchers will enroll 40 adults aged 18-50 with mild reflux and a small hiatal defect. Participants will have surgery to close the defect, and the study will measure if this stops acid reflux without the need for ongoing medication.
