Scans reveal hidden heart damage in kidney patients

NCT ID NCT03749551

Summary

This study aimed to better understand why people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at such high risk for serious heart problems and death. Researchers used a special type of heart scan (cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging) on 276 adults with moderate to severe CKD to look for patterns of heart damage, thickening, and scarring. The goal was to see if specific features seen on these scans could predict which patients were more likely to experience heart failure or death, to help guide future personalized treatments.
