First seen Dec 12, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested whether a general health promotion program could help adults who visited the emergency department quit risky behaviors like smoking, heavy drinking, poor diet, or lack of exercise. Over 500 participants were randomly assigned to receive either the health program or usual care. The researchers measured whether participants gave up at least one unhealthy behavior after 6 and 12 months, and whether their quality of life improved.
