Can a diet and coaching program reverse type 2 diabetes in memphis?
NCT ID NCT07316569
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tested a 6-month program combining group classes, personal coaching, and a low-carb diet to help people with early type 2 diabetes lose weight and possibly reverse their condition. It involved 35 overweight adults in low-income Memphis neighborhoods. The goal was to see if this approach could lead to diabetes remission, defined as normal blood sugar without medication.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Intensive multicomponent healthy eating and weight loss intervention (behavioral)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this program could offer a practical, low-cost way to help people with early type 2 diabetes achieve remission without medication.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study with only 35 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program requires significant lifestyle changes, and long-term success is uncertain.
