Summary
This program provided HBOC-201, a blood substitute made from cow hemoglobin, to adults with life-threatening anemia who could not receive blood transfusions. The treatment aims to deliver oxygen to tissues when blood is not an option. Participants had very low hemoglobin levels and signs of organ damage due to lack of oxygen.
