Kiosks offer clean syringes to fight HIV and overdose in appalachia

NCT ID NCT05657106

First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether community kiosks that provide clean syringes and harm reduction supplies can lower the risk of HIV, hepatitis C, and drug overdoses in rural Appalachian Kentucky. About 752 adults who use drugs will use the kiosks, and researchers will track changes in syringe sharing and safety. The goal is to see if these easy-to-access kiosks help control disease spread and prevent overdoses.
