HALTI trial: a step toward fewer pills after PFO closure?

NCT ID NCT04475510

First seen Apr 11, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at whether young people (60 or younger) who had a stroke and then a procedure to close a hole in their heart (called PFO closure) can safely stop taking blood thinners one year later. The goal is to see if stopping these medications increases the risk of another stroke or new brain lesions. The trial will follow 100 participants for several years to compare outcomes.
