Fiber fix: could a mushroom extract boost gut health in At-Risk adults?
NCT ID NCT03773900
First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 41 times
Summary
This study tested whether taking a daily fiber supplement (chitin-glucan from a fungus) for three weeks could improve gut bacteria and related health markers in 19 adults with abdominal obesity and cardiometabolic risk. Participants provided stool samples and took breath tests to measure changes in gut activity. The goal was to see if this fiber could help manage metabolic health, but the study was small and focused on understanding effects, not treating disease.
