New study aims to decode hidden gut damage in ICU patients

Summary

This study looks at a protein called I-FABP in the blood and urine of 500 ICU patients to measure gut injury. The goal is to better understand how gut damage relates to overall illness severity. Participants are adults expected to stay in the ICU for at least 48 hours. The study does not test any treatment, only observes and measures.
