New study aims to decode hidden gut damage in ICU patients
NCT ID NCT07440368
First seen Mar 06, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looks at gut injury in critically ill patients by measuring a protein called I-FABP in blood and urine. The goal is to see if this protein can help doctors better understand and grade gut problems in the ICU. About 500 adult patients expected to stay in the ICU for at least 48 hours will take part. The study does not test a treatment, but aims to improve how we detect and classify gut injury.
