New combo treatment may stop gum grafts from shrinking

NCT ID NCT07303192

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) and low-level laser therapy to standard gum graft surgery could reduce the amount the graft shrinks during healing. Gum grafts are used to cover exposed tooth roots, but they often shrink over time. The study involved 48 healthy adults with gum recession on lower front teeth. Results showed that both i-PRF and laser therapy helped maintain graft size and improve root coverage compared to surgery alone.
