Microneedling boosts gum surgery results in thin gums, small study finds

NCT ID NCT06432439

First seen May 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding microneedling before standard gum surgery (coronally advanced flap) improves root coverage for people with thin gums and receding gums. Thirty-six adults with isolated gum recession on upper front teeth were randomly assigned to receive either microneedling plus surgery or surgery alone. The goal was to see if microneedling could thicken the gums and lead to better coverage of exposed tooth roots.
