Scientists test two gels to rebuild lost jawbone from gum disease

Summary

This study compared two treatments for rebuilding bone lost to severe gum disease. 26 patients with one deep bone defect had surgery and received either a platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) gel or an enamel-derived protein gel (EMD). Researchers measured gum pocket depth and bone attachment levels at 6 months and 3 years to see which treatment worked better long-term.
