This study tested whether guided relaxation and acupuncture can reduce pain and opioid use in 379 adults with sickle cell disease. Participants were randomly assigned to one of these therapies or usual care, and researchers tracked pain levels, sleep, anxiety, and mood over six weeks. The goal was to find which approach works best and how to offer these treatments in hospitals.
