NCT ID NCT07812298
First seen Sep 10, 2026 · Last updated Sep 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers in Hong Kong are testing a 12-session group program called Expanded Coming Out Proud for people with severe mental illness. The program combines cognitive behavioral techniques, relaxation, social skills, and disclosure planning, and is led by a social worker and a peer support worker. The trial compares the program plus usual care to usual care alone, and measures changes in self-stigma and depressive symptoms over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a 12-session group program called Expanded Coming Out Proud, led by a social worker and a peer support worker
- What this could lead to
- If the program works, it could offer a low-cost, peer-supported way to help people with severe mental illness manage self-stigma and improve their quality of life.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small and runs in one region, so results may not apply broadly. Group programs depend on attendance and engagement, and self-stigma can be stubborn even with support.
