Can a menopause-mimicking drug fight fatty liver in endometriosis patients?
NCT ID NCT06523530
First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tests whether goserelin acetate, a drug that temporarily stops menstruation (like a short-term menopause), can reduce liver fat in women with endometriosis who also have fatty liver disease. Researchers will measure liver fat and stiffness using ultrasound in 62 women over 6 months. The goal is to see if this approach can improve liver health.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Goserelin acetate (Zoladex), a drug that temporarily stops menstruation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to treat fatty liver disease in women with endometriosis by using a temporary menopause-like state.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 62 participants. The drug causes temporary menopause, which may have side effects like hot flashes and bone thinning, and the liver benefit is not yet proven.
Conditions
