AI reads MRI scans to spot a deadly brain tumor type without surgery
NCT ID NCT07673679
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether an artificial intelligence system called GliomaAI-Astro4 can accurately detect a specific type of brain tumor (IDH mutant astrocytoma grade 4) using routine MRI scans. Researchers will analyze previously collected, anonymized MRI data from 1,372 patients across 13 hospitals. The goal is to see if the AI can reliably identify this tumor type, which could help doctors make faster diagnoses without needing a biopsy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- GliomaAI-Astro4 (artificial intelligence software)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this AI could help doctors quickly and non-invasively identify a specific brain tumor type from standard MRI scans, potentially reducing the need for biopsies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage observational study using existing data, not a clinical trial in patients. The AI may not perform as well in real-world settings or on different types of MRI machines.
