Ultrasound clues may forecast Flare-Ups in blood vessel disease
NCT ID NCT06894602
First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looks at whether ultrasound scans of the temporal and axillary arteries can help predict relapses in people with giant cell arteritis, a disease that causes inflamed blood vessels. Researchers will follow 100 patients to see if certain ultrasound findings are linked to future flare-ups. The goal is to improve how doctors monitor the disease and decide on treatment.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict relapses in giant cell arteritis patients using ultrasound, leading to better monitoring and treatment adjustments.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It does not test a new treatment, so it won't directly change therapy.
Conditions
