New blood test aims to spot infection after surgery

NCT ID NCT06116656

First seen Apr 30, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether measuring gene activity in blood cells can help doctors tell the difference between a normal inflammatory response after major surgery and a dangerous infection. Researchers planned to enroll adults having high-risk noncardiac surgery, but the trial was terminated early after only 61 participants. If the approach works, it could lead to faster and more accurate diagnosis of postoperative infections.
