Sugar supplement trial offers hope for rare brain disorder
NCT ID NCT07432490
Summary
This study is testing whether a dietary supplement called L-fucose can help control symptoms in adults with GLUT1 deficiency syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects brain energy. Sixteen participants will receive either the supplement or a placebo for a period, then switch, while researchers measure changes in movement problems, speech difficulties, and quality of life. The goal is to see if this supplement is safe and can reduce symptoms like poor coordination, seizures, and migraines associated with the condition.
