Frozen blood cells tested to stop surgical bleeding

Summary
This study tested whether platelets (blood cells that help with clotting) preserved by freezing work as well as or better than standard liquid-stored platelets at controlling bleeding during heart bypass surgery. The trial involved 161 adults undergoing bypass surgery who were at higher risk for bleeding. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either the frozen or standard platelets during their surgery to compare how much blood they lost.
