Frozen blood cells tested to stop heart surgery bleeding
NCT ID NCT04709705
Summary
This study tested whether platelets (blood cells that help clotting) preserved by freezing work as well as or better than standard refrigerated platelets at controlling bleeding in patients undergoing heart bypass surgery. The trial involved 161 adults at risk for significant bleeding after their surgery. Researchers randomly assigned patients to receive either the frozen or standard platelets during their procedure to directly compare how much blood was lost.
