New study aims to replace painful liver biopsies with simple blood tests
NCT ID NCT03695796
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study looked at better ways to diagnose liver damage in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) without using a needle biopsy. Over 1,000 adults with NAFLD from eight French hospitals gave blood samples and had special liver scans. The goal was to see if these non-invasive tests can accurately find advanced liver scarring, so that when new treatments become available, doctors can easily identify who needs them.
