First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether providing free center-based childcare during the summer can prevent unhealthy weight gain in preschoolers from low-income families. About 300 children enrolled in needs-based pre-K programs will take part. Researchers will measure body fat and BMI to see if the structured environment of childcare helps kids stay healthier during the summer break.
