Glowing dye tested to save parathyroid glands during surgery

NCT ID NCT06169735

First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested whether a dye called indocyanine green, which glows under special cameras, helps surgeons find and protect parathyroid glands during thyroid or parathyroid surgery. Over 400 adults were enrolled, but the study was stopped early. The goal was to see if the dye makes surgery safer by showing which glands are working properly.
