Gentler eye swab tested to replace painful scrape for infection diagnosis
NCT ID NCT04230811
Summary
This study aimed to compare a new, gentler method for diagnosing serious eye infections (microbial keratitis) against the standard, more uncomfortable method. The new method uses a small filter paper to gently touch the infected area instead of scraping it with a blade. Researchers wanted to see if the gentler method was better at finding the germ causing the infection and caused fewer side effects for patients.
