Gentler eye swab tested to replace painful scrape for infection diagnosis

NCT ID NCT04230811

Summary

This study aimed to compare a new, gentler diagnostic method called a corneal impression membrane (a soft swab) against the standard, more uncomfortable corneal scrape for identifying the germs causing serious eye infections (microbial keratitis). The goal was to see if the swab method was better at detecting germs and caused fewer side effects for patients. The study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
