Eye scans may forecast vision loss in macular degeneration
NCT ID NCT00734487
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study looked at whether special eye scans (SDOCT) can predict vision loss and worsening of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in people at moderate to high risk. Researchers followed 470 participants from the AREDS2 trial, taking detailed images of the back of the eye to track changes over time. The goal was to see if these scans could spot early signs of advanced AMD before vision is lost.
