Cactus extract tested as last hope for untreatable cancer pain

NCT ID NCT00804154

Summary

This early-stage study is testing the safety of an experimental drug called resiniferatoxin (RTX) for people with severe pain from advanced cancer that other treatments cannot control. RTX is derived from a cactus-like plant and works by targeting and destroying the nerves that send pain signals. The drug is injected directly into the fluid around the spinal cord, and researchers will carefully monitor 45 participants to find a safe and effective dose.
