New dialysis filter aims to cut fatigue and pain

NCT ID NCT06032208

First seen May 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special dialyzer called Theranova can improve symptoms like pain, sleep, energy, and itching in people with end-stage kidney disease on dialysis. About 100 adults will use the new filter for 24 weeks and report how they feel using a phone app. The goal is to see if removing larger toxins during dialysis makes patients feel better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Theranova dialyzer (a device that removes larger toxins during dialysis)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to reduce common symptoms like fatigue, itching, and poor sleep for people on dialysis, improving their quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage extension study with only 100 participants. It compares symptoms to each patient's own baseline, not a separate control group, so results may be less reliable. The device may not meaningfully improve symptoms.
