New needle treatment may replace surgery for hormone disorder

NCT ID NCT05368090

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study compares a new, less invasive procedure called endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (EUS-RFA) to standard surgery (adrenalectomy) for treating left-sided primary aldosteronism, a condition where the adrenal gland makes too much aldosterone. About 60 adults with confirmed hormone overproduction from the left adrenal gland will receive EUS-RFA, which uses heat to destroy the overactive nodule. The study will check if this approach can control hormone levels and blood pressure with fewer complications and a shorter hospital stay than surgery.
