Timing is everything: new study tests nerve block before vs. during back surgery to cut opioid use

NCT ID NCT06933498

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study looks at 60 adults having lumbar disc surgery to see if giving a nerve block (ESPB) before surgery works better than giving it during surgery. The goal is to reduce pain, the need for strong painkillers (opioids), and side effects like nausea. Researchers will also check if the block helps keep the heart rate and blood pressure more stable during the operation.
