New nerve block may slash opioid use after back surgery

NCT ID NCT05856539

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special nerve block (erector spinae plane block) can lower the amount of strong painkillers patients need after minimally invasive lower back surgery. About 48 adults having a specific type of spine fusion will be randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block plus standard care or standard care alone. The main goal is to see if the block reduces opioid use in the first 24 hours after surgery.
