New study aims to cut opioid use after breast surgery

NCT ID NCT06938581

First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether a set of recovery steps called ERAS can reduce the need for strong painkillers (opioids) after breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer. About 260 adults will be randomly assigned to either the ERAS plan or standard care. Researchers will track how many people need opioid prescriptions in the first week and how much pain they feel right after surgery.
