Simple physio check may prevent breathing tube removal failures
NCT ID NCT06450678
First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a special physiotherapy assessment, called the EPIC Assessment, can help doctors know when it's safe to remove a breathing tube from patients in the intensive care unit. About 330 adults who have been on a ventilator for more than 48 hours will be checked before the tube is removed. The goal is to reduce the 10-20% failure rate that can lead to serious problems like pneumonia or death.
