Tooth-Enamel gel may boost dental implant healing
NCT ID NCT07727655
First seen Jul 27, 2026 · Last updated Sep 17, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This trial tests whether applying a gel made from tooth-enamel proteins (enamel matrix derivative) during immediate dental implant placement can improve healing and implant stability. Adults aged 18 to 45 who need a lower molar replaced will receive either the gel or standard implant placement. Researchers will measure implant stability and bone changes over six months to see if the gel helps the implant fuse with the jawbone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a gel made from tooth-enamel proteins (enamel matrix derivative, Emdogain)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could lead to a simple way to improve dental implant success and bone healing after tooth extraction.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 24 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The gel is generally safe but could cause local swelling or discomfort.

Inclusion Criteria: 1. Patients with non-restorable mandibular molar requiring dental extraction. 2. Patient medically free from systemic diseases that absolutely contraindicate implant surgery. 3. Age range: from (18 to 45) years. 4. Adequate inter-arch relation and inter-occlusal space to accommodate the prosthetic restoration (8-12mm). 5. Extraction sockets with intact bony walls and interradicular bone. 6. Jumping gap more than 2mm. 7. Patients with good oral hygiene. 8. Patients willing to participate in the study's follow-up intervals. Exclusion Criteria: 1. Patients with any pathological lesion or aggressive periodontal disease at the planned surgical site impaired the immediate implant placement. 2. smoker patients. 3. Pregnant patients. 4. Patients with para-functional habits (bruxism and clenching)
