Zapping back pain? electrical stimulation trial aims to ease debilitating muscle stiffness

NCT ID NCT05103436

Summary

This study is testing whether a non-drug treatment can reduce painful muscle stiffness (spasticity) in people with spinal cord injuries. Forty adults with injuries in their neck or upper back will use a TENS unit, which delivers mild electrical pulses through pads on the lower back, for two months. Researchers will measure changes in muscle stiffness and control to see if this approach can improve daily life without medication.
