Eggshells to the rescue: new study tests natural bone graft for gum disease

NCT ID NCT07160101

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested a bone-graft material made from eggshells (nano hydroxyapatite) against a standard material for repairing bone defects caused by gum disease. Twenty-eight adults with deep gum pockets received surgery and one of the two materials. The researchers measured bone regrowth, pocket depth, and gum health over six months to see if the eggshell version worked better.
