Egg-cellent gains? study tests if whole eggs boost muscle in older adults

NCT ID NCT00260442

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looked at whether eating whole eggs (which contain cholesterol) helps build more muscle than eating egg whites in adults aged 50 to 69 who do strength training. Over 36 participants, researchers measured muscle gain, blood cholesterol, and other health markers. The goal was to understand if dietary cholesterol from eggs can safely support muscle growth without harming heart health.
