Could early norepinephrine save more septic shock patients?
NCT ID NCT07343206
First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving a blood-pressure-raising drug (norepinephrine) early and adjusting the dose quickly can improve survival in adults with septic shock. 600 participants will receive either the drug or a placebo, with standard care for both groups. The goal is to see if this approach reduces deaths within 28 days and helps control shock faster.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
norepinephrine (a drug that raises blood pressure)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a standard protocol for giving blood-pressure support earlier in septic shock, potentially saving more lives.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial testing a timing strategy, not a new drug. The benefit may be small, and rapid dose adjustment could increase side effects like limb ischemia.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
