Can a depression drug ease knee replacement pain?

NCT ID NCT05086393

First seen Nov 14, 2025 · Last updated Jun 10, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested whether duloxetine, a medication usually used for depression, can help reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers after knee replacement surgery. 241 adults having knee replacement took part in a triple-blind trial where neither they, their doctors, nor the researchers knew who got the drug or a placebo. The goal was to see if adding duloxetine to standard pain management improves recovery.
