New DBS direction may shake up tremor treatment

NCT ID NCT04828798

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests whether a newer, directional form of deep brain stimulation (DBS) can better control essential tremor while reducing side effects like speech and balance problems. About 24 adults with essential tremor will receive both directional and standard DBS to compare their effects. The goal is to find a wider "therapeutic window"—more tremor control with fewer unwanted effects.
