3D mammography may spot more cancers in routine screening

NCT ID NCT02698202

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether a newer 3D mammogram (tomosynthesis) is better than standard 2D mammograms at finding advanced breast cancers in women aged 45-74. Over 26,000 women took part. The goal was to see if 3D imaging reduces the number of cancers found between screenings and catches more cancers early.
