First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 26 times
Summary
This study tested whether a chewing gum containing dietary nitrate (a natural compound found in leafy greens and beets) could improve gum health and heart health in adults with mild to moderate gum irritation or bleeding. Thirty participants were randomly assigned to use either the nitrate gum or a placebo gum for three weeks. Researchers measured gum inflammation, blood vessel flexibility, and nitric oxide levels in breath to see if the gum had any effect.
