Could a pacemaker for the diaphragm save more donor lungs?
NCT ID NCT07505589
First seen Apr 04, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This small study tested whether electrically pacing the diaphragm could improve lung function in brain-dead organ donors whose lungs were initially not good enough for transplant. Three donors received a temporary pacing catheter. The goal was to see if the approach is safe and feasible, and whether it could help recover lungs that might otherwise be discarded.
