Broken bones and broken spirits: can surgeons treat depression?

NCT ID NCT05976347

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at whether orthopaedic surgeons can safely screen for depression in patients recovering from a broken bone and offer medication (SSRIs or SNRIs) to treat it. About 100 adults who score at least 5 on a depression questionnaire will be offered treatment or choose not to take medication. The goal is to see if depression symptoms improve and how well people stick with the medication.
