Could a contraceptive shot ease sickle cell pain?

Summary
This study looks at whether the birth control shot Depo-Provera can reduce painful sickle cell episodes in women. 65 adult women with sickle cell disease who have frequent pain will be followed for 3 months without the shot, then 3 months after receiving it. Researchers will compare pain episodes and blood markers between the two periods.
